Let's come back this week
to the beginnings of our
Boston Harbor condo project...
It's hard to describe the emotions swirling between us
while standing in the living room with its high ceilings
and wall of windows looking out to the working harbor.
It was impossible not to want to be a part of
reimagining this space in a very iconic building.
The chance to work with the owners again
with a new team gave us a surge of energy
we just couldn't deny!
And so we were quick
to get working on realizing
the homeowner's new vision.
After developing a foundation for the project
and working through the scope of work
with clients and contractors,
we began to pull together design ideas.
In this phase we also create 3D renderings
and curate materials including fixtures,
finishes, and furnishings to make
a cohesive and comprehensive design plan.
We landed on keeping the juxtaposition of the old building
with rustic beams in the middle of a large city,
bringing out more of the rustic vibes
along with some traditional New England features,
and mixing it all in with the urban city life.
From Maine roots to Boston city living...
a non-traditional urban retreat...
a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll!
An Urban Lodge.
Our vision incorporated
a mix of recycled barn wood,
wool rugs, leather, saturated tones...
durability, comfort... window seats...
all mixed with magical sunrises.
Can you picture it?
Keeping the dark rustic wood throughout
(and exposing even more of it),
mixing in old barn boards from Maine
for additional beams, a beautiful feature wall,
and even some furniture pieces.
The focal fireplace would get a more modern update
while keeping a warm rustic feel in stone.
And using black and brushed gold metals
along with glass throughout
to bring in the urban feel.
Keeping the paint colors simple,
we suggested a warm white that pairs well
with the dark wood along with accents of charcoal blue
to bring in the Boston Harbor just outside.
Staying true to this inspiration, the bathroom
tile selections carry this same water theme.
We kept the furnishings neutral, casual, and modern...
fitting well with the urban side of the planned aesthetic
while being similar to what the clients
are used to in their other homes.
We didn't just decide on
the look and feel of this home,
we also helped develop better layouts,
like in suggesting opening up the kitchen space
and creating a designated dining area.
And in each guest room we wanted to achieve
the "hotel look" with two queen beds
while also making better use of the space
in the very outdated bathrooms and giving them
the feeling of a rustic spa-like oasis.
Are you getting the overall vision
for this incredible place?
We hope so!
Next time, we'll be looking at
what happened next at the site
and what that entailed.
More to come!
