A Spare Room Becomes an Office
Let's take a look at a recent
Room Design project for a client that needs help
turning a spare bedroom into an office
for working from home and to provide
a space for occasional guests.
They also want a comfortable "reading spot"
and to have places for storage.
The room has a lot of doors...
two closets, an entry door, and a double door
that leads to a bathroom and laundry room.
All the doors and trim are currently dark wood
and the number of them
makes it all quite visually "busy"
within the room.
We put the office desk in a corner looking towards
the windows with a view to the outdoors.
The closet next to it would house office storage
and potentially more work surface area.
We've used a comfortable pull-out sofa
as the cozy and comfortable "reading spot"
and for accommodating any
overnight guests when needed.
Our clients aren't afraid of using color
and they like cool tones... blues, grays, and teals.
We recommended a deep blue color for the room
and using it as a "color drench"...
painting the entire room including
all the doors and trim.
Doing this lets your eyes rest
on the inviting furnishings in the room
instead of moving through the busyness
of all the many doors and trim.
The space will become calm
and welcoming.
Easy transformations
